Daily Devotional Thought--From the New Testament (Our Father's Gifts)

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

Today is my daughter's third birthday. And let me tell you, I am a proud pappa who LOVES to give a good gift. Not necessarily an expensive gift, but a good gift, the sort that makes the eyes light up when the wrapping paper is torn off and the treasure is revealed.

How much more does our Father love to give good gifts to His children.

"What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!" (Luke 11:12-13).

In your Baptism, God made you His child, folding you into the flock of faith, giving you the righteousness of Christ, the Son of God.

And rest assured, your heavenly Father gives you every good gift: forgiveness, life and salvation, and even house, home, land, animals, spouse, children, etc.

As a child's eyes light up when they uncover the treasures received on their birthday. So too do our eyes of faith beam brightly when the Holy Spirit reveals to us our eternal Father's perfect gifts.

Thanks be to God! Amen.
